Terms of Service

1. Who runs this

oratilo ("oratilo", "we") is run by its individual operator, not a company. It is non-commercial: there are no ads, no paid plans, and nothing for sale. Contact: getoratilo@gmail.com, or the report link at the end of any summary.

By using oratilo.com you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use it.

2. What oratilo is

oratilo hosts written summaries of publicly available videos. Each summary links back to the original video and names its channel. We do not host, mirror, or re-upload video or audio, and we do not store raw transcripts. Videos play through the platform's own embedded player, loaded only when you click it.

Reading is free and requires no account. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time — it is run by one person, and these terms make no promise of continuity.

2.1 Our tools run on your machine, not ours

We publish software tools — including an open-source connector — that help you turn a video you watched into a summary, using your own device and your own AI accounts. The tools run locally. We do not select videos, we do not run the tools for you, and we do not generate summaries on our servers. What a tool produces on your machine is your work, and submitting it to the library is your act, at your direction. oratilo stores what you choose to submit.

3. Accounts and handles

• You must be 14 or older to create an account.
• You are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account.
• Handles are permanent and cannot be changed after they are chosen. We may reclaim handles that impersonate a person or organization, that are used to mislead, or that are reserved for the operation of the service.
• You may delete your account at any time. Deleting it removes your profile and your saved items.

4. Contributing summaries

If you contribute a summary, you confirm that:

• you produced it at your own direction, on your own device, with tools you are entitled to use, from a video that was publicly available at the time;
• it is a genuine summary — your own selection, ordering and description of what the video says — and not a substantial reproduction of the video's script or subtitles;
• it does not knowingly misstate what the video says;
• you are not paid or directed by anyone to place particular claims or links in it.

4.1 The rights you keep, and the licence you give

You keep the copyright in what you write. To let us publish, translate, index and distribute it, you grant oratilo a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable and transferable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, translate, publish, publicly display and distribute your contribution, in whole or in part, in any medium now known or later developed, including in machine-readable form and as part of datasets or interfaces made available to third parties.

You also waive any moral rights in the contribution to the extent permitted by law, so the summary can be translated, corrected and reformatted.

This licence survives deletion of your account for copies already distributed and for the version of the library held by third parties. Removing your account removes your profile and attribution, but does not oblige us to withdraw summaries already relied on by others.

Why this is broad: a public library only works if its operator can translate, correct, reindex and — if the project ever changes hands — pass the whole collection on intact. The licence is written to permit exactly that, and nothing more personal than that.

4.2 What we may do with contributions

We may edit summaries for accuracy and formatting, translate them, decline to publish them, place new contributors in a review queue, rate-limit or suspend accounts, and remove anything at our discretion — in particular anything that looks automated, low-quality, promotional, or ungrounded in the source video.

5. Rights holders

If you own rights in a video and want its summary removed, we remove it — no reason required and no proof requested. See For creators for how to ask and how quickly we act.

Formal notices under the US DMCA or Korea's Copyright Act (articles 102–103) may be sent the same way, and we act on them promptly. Knowingly false takedown notices can carry liability of their own (17 U.S.C. §512(f)).

We terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly contribute infringing material.

6. Things you may not do

• Scrape or bulk-download the library other than through an interface we publish for that purpose.
• Use the service to build a substantially similar competing corpus by automated extraction.
• Impersonate anyone, or present a summary as endorsed by the video's creator.
• Upload unlawful material, malware, or content that infringes someone else's rights.
• Interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or circumvent rate limits.

7. Our own material

The oratilo name, logo, site design and software are ours (except where published under an open-source licence, which then governs). Nothing in these terms transfers them to you. Summaries remain subject to section 4 and to the rights of the underlying video's owner.

8. No warranty

Summaries are written by people using AI tools and may be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. They are not a substitute for watching the source, and they are not professional advice of any kind — not medical, legal, financial, or otherwise. The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law.

If you find an error, use the report link at the end of any summary.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of oratilo. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us to use the service — which, for a free service, is nothing.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Changes, transfer and termination

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will make it visible on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use oratilo after that means you accept the change.

We may transfer or assign this agreement, together with the licences granted in section 4, to a successor operator or as part of a reorganisation, acquisition or transfer of the project. You may not assign your rights under it.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms.

11. Governing law

If these terms are translated into other languages, the translations are for convenience only — the English version controls.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, and the courts of Seoul, Republic of Korea have exclusive jurisdiction — without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
